Bill Paxton on Fearing Titanic Submersible Dives
Bill Paxton opens up to ET about his fears ahead of submersible dives to Titanic’s wreckage for ‘Ghosts of the Abyss.’ The late actor admits to ET in this 2003 interview that he had doubts about the underwater expeditions, but James Cameron convinced him to be part of the documentary. Paxton shares his first reaction to seeing the infamous ocean liner, which sunk to the sea floor after it was struck by an iceberg in 1912 while on its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. Over 100 years later, Cameron has been a prominent voice in the wake of the Titan submersible tragedy, offering his expert opinion on what could have gone wrong in OceanGate’s ‘catastrophic implosion.’ In Paxton’s 2003 interview, he recalls thinking that if something did go wrong on the vessel, he figured ‘it’s going to happen so quickly that you’re not even gonna know it happened, probably. Ghosts of the Abyss

Here’s a fact about Bill Paxton and Jim Cameron during the filming of Titanic Bill Paxton actually didn’t go down to the wreck of the Titanic. He just acted that way. in 2001 Bill Paxton actually got a chance to go down to the Titanic and he got to go with Jim Cameron, they were down at the Titanic for about five hours when they came up to crew aboard the ship that they were going up you was horrified and scared about what they just witnessed. It turns out while they were underwater having lunch by the Titanic wreck 9/11 happened while they were underwater and they came up a little while after the towers fell. Please have the questions and saying about the same
I just watched this movie yesterday! I was wondering if he had really gone down there ! Wow
Ghosts of the abyss is a great movie!! We watched it this week
I miss Bill Paxton. I ALWAYS had a crush on him. Although this is tragic, as a mechanical engineering student this event really opened my eyes. I thought all the tedious math and abstract theories I was learning was just jargon to make my classes harder, but when now I see why we learn all these things. Some of the cut corners on this submersible is exactly what my professors warn us about. Titanic Submersible Dives BillPaxton
The respect that Bill and James have for what they were doing is 1st class! A documentary is one thing to get the facts but rich billionaires buying a sightseeing ticket got karma for disrespecting the deceased
Why submersible carrying passengers?
This week a submersible carrying passengers to the site of the wreck of the Titanic disappeared in the North Atlantic; all five aboard perished in a catastrophic implosion. Correspondent David Pogue, who rode in the same underwater vehicle last year, reports on this latest disaster and looks back on his interviews with OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush and deep-sea explorer P.H. Nargeolet, who was among those killed.
Actually seeing inside the submersible and the controls, I was shocked to be completely honest. That is terrifying, I would not have expected it to be so barebones. My heart goes out to the families of those who were lost in the titan. Even with the safety protocols, or how adamant they were it was safe, I’m appalled that anyone let this go on. But despite that I still am sad at this unnecessary loss of life.

I’m an aerospace engineer working for a huge company with composites( carbon fiber). Once I heard that this submarine is made out of composite I knew right away something really bad is going to happen. This guy should’ve known that compression on a carbon fiber will shatter and will not leave deformation. Not only that it takes years and months to develop a good submersible submarine. He took a shortcut to validate his own sub than the professionals validating his sub. This sub is all about compression, strength, and deformation. I question how the plies are laid up, 0,+45,90&-45.
Become a pilot with a CFI?
I was training to become a pilot with a CFI that had the exact same attitude as this guy with the sub. He wasn’t worried about any of the problems I mentioned with his aircraft. I ended up canceling my training with him and a few weeks later we had a fatal crash. I stopped flying altogether. Titanic Submersible Dives BillPaxton
We get on planes, and helicopters, every day. We get in vehicles every day, but there’s a reason we don’t get into submersibles as regularly. Not only because it’s expensive but because the risks are on a different level. The CEO’s attitude to risk and safety was uniquely extraordinary. But to convince other people to take such a risk is another story. Under no circumstances would I get into that. Maybe that’s because my curiosity to be on the ocean floor to see the Titanic wreckage is on an all-time zero.
Lost these beautiful souls
I am so sorry we’ve lost these beautiful souls. Hindsight is always 20/20 and there’s no need to even go there, ignorant to do so. My heart goes to everybody left to manage without their loved ones. Life as we knew it is now forever changed. It will not be easy, some days more difficult than others, for the rest of their lives. Never let fear stop you from reaching out for help. Family, friends, and professionals will be more than happy to help you through the rough times. It gives them a purpose and all involved will benefit from it. See it’s a win/win combination. Is humans are weird critters, we like to feel good. It’s okay to rely on someone who helps us feel good. My motto is the first 100 years are the toughest so keep it simple. It works for me. God bless you, everyone.
In the End
The way I look at it, they had enough confidence in their sub, that they went down in it themselves. So risking their own lives is their choice. It still seems that safety was not the number one priority though, which makes it sad that others lost their lives. Hopefully, this type of thing can be learned from. Tragic loss of life. Especially the young guy who only went to please his dad, despite being terrified. The lesson there – if you feel really uncomfortable doing something, listen to your gut and don’t worry who is offended.
